Optional Post-Conference Excursions

We are making you aware of a couple of optional tour offers through a local Ecuadorian travel agency for those who are able to extend their stay in Ecuador. The agency prepared two offers:

One offer is for a 1-day excursion on July 1 (the day after the conference ends on June 30) to a local town Otavalo and the surrounding mountains.

The other offer is for a 4 days/3 nights trip to the Galapagos Islands (airfare and accommodations included) for July 1-4. Additionally, if you decide to go on the Galapagos trip, you may also add the 1-day excursion to Otavalo on July 5.

Please note that the deadline for booking & payment of both trips is March 31, 2018, so please plan accordingly.

San Francisco de Quito is located 2,800 meters above sea level, which holds the title of “The Second Highest Capital in the World” and one of the oldest capitals in Latin America. It is a vibrant city on the foothills of the Pichincha volcano and has a very particular charm due to the cultural history of its ethnic ancestry and the Spanish colonialism, that is seen in the architecture of its buildings, primarily located in the historical center, which is one of the most beautiful and best preserved of the Americas.

The city is also impressive for its many volcanoes and hillsides full of colorful buildings that surround the city like precious gems viewable from almost every corner.

The “Mitad Del Mundo” City and the Intiñan Museum are two of the “Things you must do in Quito”, where the latitude is 0-0′-0. It will take you about 40 minutes to get there from the center of Quito.

The Panecillo is a hill that divides the city between north and south, and whose top is the represented by a winged virgin, also known as the “Virgen de la Nube” or the Virgin of Quito. It is a giant structure composed of 7 thousand pieces of aluminum, which was sculpted by the artist Bernardo de Legarda from Quito.

Church “La compañia de Jesus”. It is in the heart of the Historic Center and is simply amazing. You will be astounded by its beauty. This temple, in the Baroque style of colonial Quito, is part of the monumental Jesuit architecture.

In “The Chapel of Man”, you can find Pre-Columbian archaeological pieces, objects from the time of the Colonialism, a main attraction of the museum. The personal collection of Ecuador’s most renowned artist, Oswaldo Guayasamín, which includes the entire collection of his work. The chapel is a tribute to Mankind.

The Galapagos Islands

The Galapagos Islands constitute one of the most complex, diverse and unique ocean chain of island in the world, which still maintains its ecosystems and biodiversity. Its location, geographical isolation, biological wealth, and evolutionary processes reflected its unique flora and fauna, which has earned worldwide recognition.

The Galapagos Islands are located in the Pacific Ocean on the equator, approximately 960km from the continental coast of Ecuador, between 1 ° 20 ‘north latitude and 1 ° 0’ south latitude, and 89 ° and 92 ° Western length. The chain of islands was formed by 19 major islands and more than 200 islets and rocks that extends approximately 8.010 Km². Of the total land area (788,200 ha), 96.7% (761,844 ha.) is a National Park, Natural Heritage of Humanity (UNESCO), and 3.3% (26,356 ha) is a colonized zone for urban and rural agriculture.
